I first went trekking with Mike nine years ago when he was working for another company. Back then I already thought he was an amazing guide, super friendly, funny and full of knowledge about the area. This year I came back to Northern Thailand with my girlfriend and it was clear we had to do another tour with him. Since then Mike has started his own trekking company, so we booked directly with him over WhatsApp which was quick and easy. We chose a one day tour and it was packed with great experiences. We hiked through beautiful forest and jungle north of Chiang Mai, went bamboo rafting (and even swam in the river), and Mike kept us entertained the whole time with songs, stories and interesting facts about nature. One of the highlights was visiting a very respectful elephant sanctuary where the animals were clearly happy and well cared for. The three baby elephants completely melted our hearts. Later we visited a stunning waterfall and had it all to ourselves… such a special moment. After rafting we were served tasty Pad Thai and fresh fruit. The whole day felt safe but still adventurous in the best way. Mike grew up in the area and knows it inside out, and he’s just a genuinely kind and fun person to spend the day with. If you want to experience Northern Thailand in the most authentic way, go with Mike. We really hope it won’t take us another nine years to come back. Thanks Mike!
Simply the best! Wish I could give more than 5 stars. The tour is truly authentic in all aspects: transportation, jungle tracks, Mike's own village, every single delicious meal, bamboo rafts, cooking, many different handicrafts, ,... and much more. This is an awesome lifetime experience we all will never forget!!! Mike is the perfect guide: smiling, laughing, explaining and singing all the time and above all knowledgeable about many many (tiny) details. It is clear that his fellow villagers respect him as their hero, so we were all most welcome throughout the village. We could certainly have stayed longer! Our warmest regards!!! (we did Mike's 3-day trekking in April '25 as a private group of 1 family of 7 with "kids" in their 20'ies)
We have booked 2 days 1 night trip into jungle with Mike. It was private tour for us cause we had small children with us (altogether 6 adults 4 children). The tour include visit to a waterfall, hiking through the jungle, night in a village, bamboo rafting and feeding elephants. Personally, few years ago I did similar trip, but with some company found on Chiang Mai streets. And I can really admit that Mike’s Authentic Trekking is 100x times better. I must admit that the Mike’s knowledge of the area, history, curiosities, as well as patience with our group was exceptional. It was wonderful experience!
What an experience! The two-day trip was more than we ever expected: the hike was great, the village we spent the night at was beautiful and completely lost in the mountains. I loved helping with the cooking! Mike is really nice and makes sure everybody is having a good time. He is from the Karen tribe, he has an amazing life and plenty of interesting stories to tell. The next day we went bamboo rafting it was so much fun, and to end this perfect trip we went to see the elephants: fed them, pet them, and even swimed with them! I will never forget it thanks again for everything Mike!
